Victims of the Hanau shootings

The perpetrators of the murders mentioned below have nothing to do with our province of Limburg. Nevertheless, we are mentioning them here to show how far supporters of National Socialism are still willing to go today.

The Hanau shootings (German: Anschläge in Hanau) occurred on 19 February 2020, when nine people with a migration background were killed and five others wounded in a terrorist shooting spree by a far-right extremist targeting a shisha bar, a bar and a kiosk in Hanau, near Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany.[4] After the attacks, the gunman returned to his apartment, where he killed his mother and then committed suicide. [1]
The German federal criminal police BKA classified the murders of the perpetrator, who was characterized by paranoid delusions, as right-wing extremist and racially motivated. And of course it was again “a lone offender”. However, the authorities’ handling of such incidents is not an lone offense.

  • Vili Viorel Păun witnessed the murders at the first crime scene. He tried to block the perpetrator’s car with his car and then drove after him. On the way, he called the police emergency number several times in vain. He was to be one of the victims.
  • The doctor who had to carry out the autopsy on the victims asked the authorities to inform the relatives that they now had the opportunity to say farewell before. It was not considered necessary to inform them of this.
  • But a so-called endangerment speech was: “The father of the perpetrator is now at home. But don’t do anything stupid like revenge or the like, we’re keeping an eye on you!” [1]

Racism among the authorities is not an isolated case. Nor is it limited to Germany. It’s everywhere, and it’s far more dangerous everywhere than crazy individual perpetrators. And it is SO STUPID!

The mother of one of the victims shows how coping with such great grief is possible without hate:
The Ferhat Unvar educational initiative offers children, teenagers, young adults and their parents who experience racism in everyday life or at school a contact point and an open space for information, cohesion and education. Its aim is to promote the peaceful coexistence of the diversity of religions, cultures and nationalities that have always made up Germany and will continue to do so. [2]
Çetin Gültekin, brother of one of the victims, wrote a book about the murders. [3]
