Old Hickory

Eenheden van de geallieerde strijdkrachten
De hier vermelde leden van de geallieerde strijdkrachten vielen allen op het gebied van de voormalige gemeente Valkenburg-Houthem. Misschien gaan we deze lijst ooit uitbreiden met de hele Nederlandse provincie Limburg.
De Amerikaanse 30e Infanteriedivisie was beter bekend als The Old Hickory en ook als Roosevelt’s SS. De 29e en 30e infanteriedivisie behoorden tot het 19e korps van het Eerste US Leger.
In Nederland was de Old Hickory divisie in 1944 onder andere verantwoordelijk voor de bevrijding van grote delen van Zuid-Limburg. In België speelde de divisie een sleutelrol bij het Ardennenoffensief.
De divisie was bijna 16000 man sterk en bestond uit vier, later drie infanterieregimenten:

117e Infanterieregiment
118e Infanterieregiment (in augustus 1942 gedetacheerd)
119e Infanterieregiment
120e Infanterieregiment
On 14 June the 743rd Tank Battalion was attached to the 30th Infantry Division, with whom they would remain for the remainder of the war in Europe.
