The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Willem Voncken completed the secondary school Bisschoppelijk College in Roermond. This was followed by military officer training at the KMA (Royal Military Academy) in Breda. At the start of the war on May 10, 1940, he was a major in the army [1] and assigned to the depot Wielrijders (bicycle soldiers) in Gouda. He had to go into battle with a group of soldiers who had not yet completed their training [7].
During the occupation he belonged to the Westerveld group of the Ordedienst. Was arrested on September 12, 1941. Sentenced to death in Amersfoort on April 11, 1942, [3] in the first OD trial [4]. Voncken was shot together with 61 other members of the OD and nine of the Mekel group in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp on May 3, 1942.
He is on the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [5]
