On Oorlogsdoden Nijmegen [5] we read, that Ferdinand van Oppen was a lawyer and prosecutor.
He studied law in Nijmegen (1932 - 1937) … Already in the first months of the occupation he, reserve lieutenant of the Grenadiers en Jagers, was imprisoned for "illegal" activities.
What kind of activities these were is not mentioned. Maastrichtse gevelstenen also refers to him as a resistance fighter without giving any reasons [1].
He lived in Maastricht. Son of the industrialist and politician Emile Hubert van Oppen and Alphonsine Augustine Marie van Oppen [2].
He is on the Erelijst 1940-1945, the honor roll of the Dutch Parliament. [3]
