The fallen resistance people in Limburg
The barge master Jan Duynkerke usually transported cement in the Netherlands and abroad with his boat Maria, but also refugees. The home port of the Maria was the old harbor of Maastricht, the Bassin. [1, p.96]
He was also involved in intelligence gathering. As a bargeman on the Maas, he had some connections in Liege.
Arrested 09-12-1941. [1, p.117]
On October 30, 1942, he arrived at Neuengamme from the transit camp at Amersfoort. His camp number there was 11926. [2]
In the OGS archives we find both spellings of his name: Duijnkerke and Duynkerke. [3]
Jan Marinus ( Jan ) Duijnkerke /Duynkerke is listed in the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
