Gökhan Gültekin was born in Hanau, where his Kurdish parents from Ağrı (Turkey) had moved in 1968. He had an eight-year-old older brother; his father died of cancer five weeks after the attack. Gökhan Gültekin was a qualified bricklayer and had set up a transportation and cleaning company shortly before the attack. He worked only temporarily at the Arena Bar, one of the murder sites. In 2006, Gültekin was seriously injured when a bus ran over a phone booth in which he was standing. He saw the fact that he had survived the accident as a gift from God. He died at the age of 37. [1]
His father said he was the down-to-earth and hard-working one of the family. [2]
