The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Jacob Janssen was a branch manager of the grocery chain EDAH in Roermond and a member of the resistance group Oranje Vrijbuiters. [1]
His code name was Jacob, his call sign Jacques. He was involved in a staged robbery at EDAH. This brought in a lot of ration stamps. Together with his cousin Johannes Antonius Linders (Father Sebaldus), he was involved in helping Allied pilots.
On August 24, 1943, Resistance member Joop de Heus [7] was arrested for prohibited activities and began working for the Sipo. He betrayed the members of the resistance group Oranje Vrijbuiters, to which he had belonged [6]. For this reason, Jacob Janssen was arrested at his home on June 9, 1944, as were Jan Dahmen and Marcel Stoffels.
He was first transferred to the Polizeigefängnis (police prison) in Haaren and later to the concentration camp in Vught. There he was executed together with his cousin on August 11, 1944. It was not until October 27, 1945 that his next of kin received his death notice. [6]
He was shot at the Camp Vught shooting range, which had been converted into an execution site. Today, there is a memorial at the execution site and a memorial wall at the Camp Vught National Memorial site. [2]
His mortal remains lie in the Asputten (ash pits) of Camp Vught. [3]
He is listed on the war memorial in Roermond. [4]
