Er zijn in ons taalgebruik begrippen, die eigenlijk niet juist zijn, maar ze hebben zich nu eenmaal ingeburgerd en iedereen weet daarom, waar we het over hebben. Een daarvan is racisme. Dat begrip doelt op een afkeer of zelfs haat tegenover mensen van een ander „ras“. Het begrip antisemitisme is ook eigenlijk alleen juist, wanneer iemand niet alleen joden maar ook arabieren haat, want Hebreeuws en Arabisch zijn allemaal Semitische talen. Jodenhaat is antijudaïsme.

Wat is eigenlijk een ras?
„Ras“ en „raszuiver“ zijn agrarische begrippen. Een dieren- of plantenras ontstaat wanneer een groep van individuen van alle anderen wordt geïsoleerd, waardoor bepaalde gewenste eigenschappen in de genen beter naar voren kunnen komen. Een kunstmatige inteelt dus, die we ook fokken of kweken noemen. Een ras houd je zuiver door het te isoleren van de soortgenoten.
In de natuur en dus ook bij ons mensen is dat anders. Daar bestaan geen rassen maar soorten, species, en dat is iets heel anders. Bij ons mensen bestaat er maar één soort: Homo sapiens, en die is zeer gemengd. We zien ook migratie bij andere soorten, zelfs bij planten. Bijvoorbeeld door klimaatveranderingen. Uit modern DNA-onderzoek weten we: Zelfs in de meest geïsoleerde dorpen en op de afgelegenste eilanden hebben de mensen voorouders uit de meest uiteenlopende richtingen. Zelfs wanneer het om enorme afstanden gaat, zoals op de Stille Oceaan.
In Europa, in heel Eurazië was het al lang voor het ontstaan van bijvoorbeeld de Germaanse talen een komen en gaan, en dus ook van vermenging van DNA.
De rassenideologie, zoals die werd/wordt aangehangen door de nazi’s, waarin men gelooft aan de mogelijkheid van een „raszuiver volkslichaam“, is dan ook wetenschappelijk niet houdbaar. Lees daarvoor het artikel van Wolfgang Haak & al. [1]

Het geloof aan het bestaan van menselijke rassen past uitstekend bij het geloof aan de superioriteit van het eigen volk. En dat past weer uitstekend als rechtvaardiging van slavenhandel en kolonialisme. Zo werd het „blanke ras“ uitgevonden, superieur aan alle anderen, door God geschapen om de wereld te beheersen. Al die ideeën waren niet nieuw, toen het nationaal-socialisme zijn kop opstak, en ook niet typisch Duits of exclusief Europees. Ook in Japan bijvoorbeeld bestond en bestaat die kijk op de wereld.
Typisch is wel het schijn-wetenschappelijke jasje, dat het Duitse racisme aankreeg. Men ging mensen opmeten om daarmee het bestaan van rassen te „bewijzen“ en daarmee het ras van individuele mensen.
Die schijnwetenschap vond zijn dieptepunt in de proeven ven kampartsen zoals Josef Mengele in Auschwitz.
Het racisme is na de nederlaag van het nationaal-socialisme niet uitgestorven, net zo min als het fascisme. Dat komt bijvoorbeeld tot uiting in de irrationele angst voor immigranten in Europa en Noord-Amerika en inmiddels ook in bijvoorbeeld Tunesië, waar migranten uit West-Afrika letterlijk de woestijn ingestuurd worden.
Het probleem is, dat racisten voor wetenschappelijke argumenten meestal niet toegankelijk zijn. Want racisten zijn gevaarlijke bange mensen. De holocaust en de verhitting van het klimaat bestaan niet, evenmin als de vluchtelingen, die daarvan het gevolg zijn. „Die willen alleen maar profiteren.“
