Door het toenemend aantal onderduikers kon aan hun behoeften alleen worden voldaan, als men ook over voldoende distributiekaarten en -bonnen beschikte. Daarvoor zorgden meestal gemeenteambtenaren, zo ook in Valkenburg. Maar zij konden zien aankomen, dat dit niet lang meer onontdekt zou blijven en dat vooral met de introductie van het nieuwe inlegvel de omvangrijke manipulaties aan het licht zouden komen. Ze bespraken hun problemen met de rayonleiding en ze stelden voor een knok- of overvalploeg een enorme chaos op het distributiekantoor te laten aanrichten. Alleen zo kon de fraude onopgemerkt blijven.
De Knokploeg Zuid-Limburg zou de overval uitvoeren. Zij wisten niet dat daags tevoren een zending distributiebescheiden voor twee maanden was gearriveerd. De buit was gigantisch: ruim 210.000 bonkaarten, ruim 82.000 rantsoenbonnen, ruim 2500 rantsoenkaarten, 5000 T.D.-stamkaarten, ruim zestienhonderd toeslagkaarten, talloze inlegvellen en een schrijfmachine. Er waren maar liefst twaalf juten zakken nodig om alles in te stoppen. De zakken werden naar een boerderij in de buurt van Kunrade bij Voerendaal gebracht.
